In an exciting development for India’s burgeoning space sector, Dhruva Space has unveiled its innovative launch program, Polar Access-1 (PA-1). Set to launch on January 12 aboard ISRO’s PSLV-DL-C62, this integrated program will support ten satellite missions from various Indian states and two International partners, amplifying India’s commitment to its private space infrastructure. The initiative focuses on a structured approach to Sun-Synchronous Orbit, providing a seamless integration of satellites, ground operations, and launch systems under one comprehensive mission architecture.

Abhay Egoor, co-founder and CTO of Dhruva Space, emphasized the significance of PA-1 as it represents a pivotal move towards creating a full-stack space infrastructure in India. The PA-1 program aims to enhance the capabilities of Indian institutions and startups by delivering a coordinated stack of four satellites, five separation systems, and multiple operational ground stations, all executed with Dhruva’s in-house technologies. This advancement not only marks a notable achievement for India’s space missions but also strengthens the country’s position in the global space economy.

One of the hallmark features of PA-1 is its focus on pioneering first-time satellite missions, such as Nepal’s Earth observation satellite developed by local institutions. Additionally, significant contributions will come from various Indian universities, including Odisha’s CGUSAT-1 and Assam’s LACHIT-1, showcasing the collaborative efforts between Dhruva Space and local academic institutions. These efforts are set to cultivate regional talent and build a robust technological ecosystem through Dhruva’s ASTRA program, which emphasizes hands-on training and operational experience.

The expansive scope of the missions, which includes applications in disaster communication, environmental monitoring, and educational outreach, underscores a growing trend in the space sector: the collaboration between private enterprises and educational institutions. From simulating visible artificial stars for students in Gujarat to developing disaster communication networks in Telangana, PA-1 will serve as a pivotal program driving technological advancements while promoting sustainable development and research initiatives across India.
