In a recent press conference, BJP MP Anurag Thakur challenged the Congress party’s objections to the newly passed Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgaar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Bill, 2025, commonly referred to as VB-G RAM-G. Thakur accused Congress of opposing the bill due to its inclusion of “Ram” in the name. He suggested that this discomfort reveals a deeper electoral struggle within the party, which he argues is still reeling from past defeats.

The VB-G RAM-G legislation has been designed to significantly bolster rural employment in India. Thakur highlighted that it guarantees 125 days of wage employment per household, an increase from the previous 100 days stipulated under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Furthermore, the bill increases funding for the program to Rs 1 lakh 11 thousand crore annually—more than tripling Congress’s budget under MGNREGA. This funding boost is aimed at addressing the historic inefficiencies and allegations of fraud during the Congress era.

Thakur’s criticism extended beyond employment to accuse the Congress party of politicizing Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy. He urged Congress to reflect on its historical naming conventions for employment schemes, highlighting that Gandhi’s name was included only after many years. “Did they only remember Mahatma Gandhi in 2009?” he questioned, suggesting that the Congress party had conveniently used Gandhi’s name merely as a political tool while neglecting substantial commitments to rural employment.

Moreover, Thakur emphasized that the VB-G RAM-G bill includes modern features to prevent fraudulent practices, such as geotagging and bank account creation, aiming for transparency and efficiency. As rural employment initiatives continue to evolve, much focus has shifted to how government sectors can ensure that the benefits reach those who genuinely need them.

The MP also pointed out that the opposition’s stance against the bill contains an underlying theme of disrespect toward devotees of Lord Ram, which he claims is evident from Congress’s previous positions on the Ram Mandir and related issues. He argued that the values of Sanatan Dharma remain central to India’s cultural fabric, and described Congress’s opposition as miscalculated.

In conclusion, the passing of the VB-G RAM-G bill marks a significant step in enhancing rural employment opportunities in India. With increased funding and entitlements, it lays a foundation for economic upliftment aimed at low-income households, while simultaneously igniting political debates around historical legacies and party identities.

Short Summary:

The Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgaar and Ajeevika Mission Bill, 2025, aims to enhance rural employment by increasing wage days and funding. Anurag Thakur’s criticisms shed light on Congress’s historical naming patterns and alleged mismanagement, framing the bill as vital for economic empowerment. Ultimately, this legislative move underscores the ongoing political narratives in Indian governance, particularly concerning employment stability and cultural values.
