In a significant development for the 2026 Formula 1 season, Mercedes has announced it will become the exclusive supplier of both the safety and medical cars, after longstanding partner Aston Martin opted not to renew its deal. This strategic shift emphasizes Mercedes’ growing presence in Formula 1, particularly with its impressive AMG lineup. The move comes after Aston Martin provided the Vantage F1 edition and the DBX707 luxury SUV as official vehicles since 2021—both notable for their high-performance specifications.

The Aston Martin Vantage F1 edition featured a powerful 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, producing 656 horsepower, an upgrade that alleviated previous criticisms regarding performance. Meanwhile, the DBX707, boasting 697 horsepower, was utilized as the medical car. However, Aston Martin has confirmed that its agreement with Formula 1 will conclude at the end of the 2025 season. The company expressed gratitude for its role in enhancing its brand presence within the competitive racing environment.

With Mercedes now set to dominate both roles in 2026, the company will deploy its 730-horsepower AMG GT Black Series at all 24 races. This decision reflects a commitment to maintaining high safety standards, which are critical for the sport’s integrity. The enhanced focus on safety within Formula 1 underscores the importance of reliable vehicles in high-stakes racing situations, where every second counts. Additionally, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ will take over as the medical car, solidifying Mercedes’ commitment to excellence in safety and performance.

Bernd Maylander has served as the safety car driver since 2000, navigating the demanding circuits of Formula 1 and ensuring the safety of drivers during critical moments. His longstanding experience is instrumental in the safety protocols employed during races. As the landscape of Formula 1 continues to evolve, fans and teams alike are eager to see how Mercedes will leverage this exclusive partnership to enhance the overall racing experience.

Short Summary

Mercedes will exclusively supply the Formula 1 safety and medical cars from 2026, marking a pivotal shift in the sport. Aston Martin’s exit from this role underscores the competitive dynamics within Formula 1, highlighting Mercedes’ commitment to high performance and safety. With Bernd Maylander continuing his role as the safety car driver, the anticipation for the upcoming season increases.
