Dubai is once again setting a benchmark in the art and cultural landscape with the unveiling of an impressive 50-metre artwork on the façade of the Dubai International Financial Centre’s Gate Building. Commissioned by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this monumental installation serves as a tribute to the Founding Fathers of the UAE, seamlessly blending their enduring legacy with the nation’s aspirations for the future. Under the #ZayedAndRashid campaign, which runs from UAE Flag Day on 3 November to the 54th Eid Al Etihad on 2 December, this creative endeavor symbolizes a deep national pride and collective identity within the UAE.
Designed by Emirati artist Ahmed BaFadhl, the artwork is more than just a visual spectacle; it narrates the rich story of the UAE’s formation and highlights its remarkable journey toward progress. As stated by Shaima Al Suwaidi, Director of Brand Dubai, this project enhances community connections by inspiring people to appreciate their heritage while fostering a forward-thinking vision.
Moreover, the collaboration between the Government of Dubai Media Office and the Dubai International Financial Centre highlights the importance of art in our national identity. The initiative stands as a reminder of the UAE’s unity, especially among the younger generations. Amina Taher of the #ZayedAndRashid Campaign Organizing Committee emphasized the role of creative expressions in forging deeper connections to history and nurturing a sense of belonging.
The installation signifies the remarkable vision of the UAE’s founders, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, whose leadership laid the groundwork for the nation’s achievements. With the mounting interest in cultural projects, such a piece not only enhances the economic landscape of Dubai but also resonates deeply within the finance and creative sectors. The continuous partnership between public and private entities, alongside community engagement, is essential in furthering these initiatives and fostering a richer, more nuanced national narrative.
