0% (Exemptions)

5% (Merit Rate)

  • Daily essentials including snacks (namkeen, bhujia), noodles, chocolates, butter, ghee, dairy spreads, cheese, condensed milk, pasta, and baked goods now attract 5% GST.

  • Personal care items, toiletries, furniture, handicrafts, utensils, toys, musical instruments—all shifted to 5%.

  • Raw materials such as sulphuric acid, nitric acid, ammonia, man-made fibre and yarn—cut to 5%.

18% (Standard Rate)

  • Most goods and services including electronics (air-conditioners, TVs, dishwashers, refrigerators, mobile phones, laptops), small cars (≤1,200 cc), bikes (≤350 cc), cement, coal, and standard apparel—now taxed at 18%.

  • Apparel above ₹2,500 per piece also moves into 18%, up from 12%.

40% (Demerit / Luxury & Sin Rate)

  • Luxury and sin goods—including pan masala, tobacco products, cigarettes, carbonated/caffeinated beverages, packaged coconut water, soya milk drinks, luxury cars, motorcycles above 350 cc, yachts, aircraft, cinema tickets over ₹100, etc.—are now taxed at 40%.

3% and 0.25% (Special Lower Rates)

  • Gold and other precious metals: 3% GST applies.

  • Rough precious/semi-precious stones and unworked or synthetic precious stones: 0.25% GST.
